2. Substrate Selection — Starting at the Source

Multi-layer plywood, with its cross-laminated structure, offers dimensional stability clearly superior to homogeneous boards — swelling rates can be controlled within 2% — making it a common substrate for hotel furniture in humid regions. For cabinets adjacent to bathrooms, moisture-resistant MDF (MR-MDF) or marine plywood can be specified; their moisture-resistant adhesive formulations maintain structural stability at relative humidity up to 90%. Base cabinets should be fitted with adjustable legs, keeping the bottom at least 100mm above the floor to prevent ground dampness immersion. Walls adjacent to bathrooms require waterproof isolation; aluminum foil moisture barriers can be added behind cabinet back panels. After installation, hotel management should be advised to maintain room air conditioning and exhaust fans, keeping indoor relative humidity at 40%-65%. Edge banding and hardware should be inspected regularly, with any lifting or rust addressed promptly.
