Anyone familiar with four- and five-star hotel projects knows that furniture factories do not decide how furniture is arranged in these properties. When the design institute develops the interior design, it already determines furniture layout, style, dimensions, and quantities — from the sofa grouping in a suite living area to the width of a nightstand. These decisions are documented in renderings, construction drawings, and furniture schedules.
The factory's main role in such projects is to read the drawings, develop construction details, and reproduce the scheme faithfully: converting design intent into buildable structures and controlling materials, craftsmanship, and junction details so the finished furniture matches the design. The value of the factory lies in accurate execution, not in replacing the design institute.
A factory is typically asked to help with furniture configuration in two situations: three-star hotels and hotel renovation projects. To save on design fees, owners often bring floor plans directly to a furniture factory and ask it to help furnish guest rooms or suites. Some serviced apartments and budget-conscious boutique hotels work the same way.
It is a practical choice — one fewer design firm means one fewer fee — but both sides should understand from the start that this differs from the high-star sequence of "design first, produce after."
Factories can take on this work not because of design theory, but because they have seen and built enough proven schemes.
Ronghetai has produced hotel furniture for more than 15 years, with a long-established export business, and has participated in numerous four- and five-star hotel projects. We employ more than 15 experienced detail designers. We know which furniture items standard rooms, executive suites, and presidential suites typically include, which dimensions are commonly used, and which solutions have been validated in real projects. This lets us offer clients without design drawings configuration suggestions modeled on mature high-star hotel practice, helping them avoid unnecessary detours.
We also state this plainly: a factory is not as professional as a design institute when it comes to scheme configuration.
Design institutes are trained to control the overall effect, plan spatial circulation, build lighting atmosphere, and create original styles. A factory's configuration is essentially "combining proven references" — reliable but conservative. In overall atmosphere and design concept, it cannot reach the level of a professional design institute. We do not present ourselves as configuration experts, and we never tell clients to "just follow our arrangement."
To use experience well and control risk, we follow a disciplined method: understand the hotel's positioning, budget, and floor plan first; then prepare furniture lists and dimensions by referencing comparable high-star cases rather than inventing schemes from scratch; confirm every item with the client in writing; prototype key products before mass production; and, when possible, recommend that a design professional review the scheme.
Where the budget allows, we recommend hiring a professional design institute for interior and furniture design, with the factory fully supporting detailing and production — the standard division of work in four- and five-star hotels, and the approach that offers stronger assurance for the final result. If the budget is genuinely limited, a factory can assist with configuration based on project experience, provided both sides share clear expectations: a factory can offer a mature, reliable reference scheme, but it cannot deliver institute-level overall design.
